Needle Aponeurotomy TrainingThe treatment of Dupuytren's contracture is a delicate balance between disease management and function preservation. As part of his years of orthopedic and hand surgery training, Dr. Mahoney has received extensive training and experience in the important anatomic and functional considerations that are relevant when treating Dupuytren's disease. Dr. Mahoney received training in all of the usual techniques of open surgery for Dupuytren's contracture, including partial palmar fasciectomy, open palm technique, V-Y plasty, mini-transverse incisions, and skin grafting. In addition, Dr. Mahoney received hands-on training in Needle Aponeurotomy (NA) from Prosper Benhaim, M.D. He was trained by Keith Denkler, M.D., who was trained in Paris. Thus, in some fashion, Dr. Mahoney the great-grandson of the originators of the technique of needle aponeurotomy. In the fall of 2007, Dr. Mahoney teamed up with his good friend, Dr. Jonathan Cluett, to visit Dr. Charles Eaton in Jupiter, Florida. They spent the day in Dr. Eaton's office. And they observed him perform needle aponeurotomy on seven patients that day. They learned a great deal from Dr. Eaton that day about the finer points of needle aponeurotomy.
